RegistrationThe 2020 Syrinx Flute Festival will be an online, E-Festival using Zoom. Please contact the festival for further information at syrinxflutefestival@gmail.com
Registration opens: April 25, 2020 Deadline to register: May 9, 2020 Overall 2020 E-Festival Plan: Day 1: evening mini recital on Zoom (free app) featuring WSO principal flutist Jan Kocman, possibly including a duet with WSO second flutist Alex Conway, followed by a Q and A Day 2: solo masterclasses and ensemble classes. Students may register for one or more solo masterclasses to be taught by a member of the WSO flute section: Jan Kocman or Alex Conway. If we receive a large number of registrations, students at or below RCM Grade 4 may be taught by another local flutist. Masterclass slots will be either 15' (for $16) or 20' (for $21), and will be unaccompanied, with students grouped according to level, and able to see and hear each other and the masterclass teacher on Zoom. Students may choose to participate live on Zoom, or may choose to email an audio or video recording of their selection(s) to syrinxflutefestival@gmail.com. Recordings will be played at the masterclass, with the masterclass teacher offering feedback, and working with the student live on Zoom. Please feel free to discuss these options with your students. For those who choose the second option, these are masterclasses, not performances, so students need not feel they should spend many hours trying to send in a perfect recording! For adults who prefer, there will be a separate Adult Masterclass. Students will not need a Zoom account to get to their "class". For ensembles, the first musician would pre-video record their part, send it to the second musician who would record over top, and so on. Teachers, if you want to conduct your ensembles, feel free to pre-video record yourself first! There is software available (like Acapella) free or at minimal cost to facilitate this. The ensemble recordings would be played at a time when performers could watch and listen to each other and receive an adjudication. We're envisioning this whole event as a non competitive festival. Day 3: solo masterclasses and ensemble classes as above Day 4: (if needed) solo masterclasses and ensemble classes as above Please note: Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) levels are guidelines only. The repertoire selected need not be listed in the syllabus, but must be at an equivalent level. The festival reserves the right to adjust the class entered, based on repertoire selected.
